Jokkmokk Iron Mines AB has been granted permission by the Swedish government to continue with the process of exploiting an area for an iron mine. The decision of the Supreme Administrative Court (HFD) follows an extended legal battle, as Sami communities and environmental groups argued that the mine would devastate the environment and impact reindeer herding. The company has argued that the mine would boost the local economy and generate new employment opportunities.
